THEN THE SAME PROBLEM AGAIN, RUNNING ANOTHER CD.BUY AT YOUR OWN RISK. I took the unit to an authorized repair shop and they at first could not find replacement parts, but latter discovered that JVC had issued a memorandum that the problem could be repaired by using a substitute part number.
The first was a portable radio many years ago. I have owned several JVC products over the years.
Within 2 months after my purchase the unit failed to place a CD properly into its tray and as the unit revolved the CD came completely out and jammed under a neoprene or plastic disc inside the machine and jammed the mechanism so that the tray would not open and scratching the CD beyond use. I have in the past had excellent experiences with their products.
This model, however, is very inferior. The part was replaced and the unit worked great for nearly a year.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
I temporary plugged it into my computer speakers, until I found small Sound system that I liked. I REALLY like it, except I didn't know it needed a speaker system. (I am not very bright when it comes to electronics). I love all the features of my JVC 5-CD Changer, and use the 'random' button a lot. The Remote Control works wonderfully, also.
Nice controls, a solid chassis, easy to use remote. I would give it five stars but for two things--- (1) occasional speaker pop on power-up (easily resolved if you use a delay circuit or just turn your power amp/receiver on last when powering up your system), and (2) limited programming/playback options---there doesn't seem to be any way to set the unit to play just a single CD straight through (without creating a program containing all the tracks of that CD). The standout feature for me is that the transport is absolutely silent when playing---no hiss or hum from the motors (I mean if you put your ear up to the component itself---not the lack of noise on the audio outputs, which should be a given with any but the cheapest disc player). The error-correction algorithms are excellent---I played some badly scratched CDs that other players could not handle and could barely hear the data interpolation at the scratch points. The internal DAC is not bad, and of course the optical output lets you hook up your DAC of choice. Bottom line, this is a GREAT bargain in Red Book changers, well worth searching out used or as a liquidation special since it seems to have been discontinued and not replaced with an improved model (what is JVC thinking).
Nice cd player, I have owned it for a while and I have had no problems, I replaced a single disc player so I really like this 5 disc one.
It is easy to work and has just the features I needed. After many years of faithful service, I finally had to replace my old Sony 5 disc changer. I looked at the available options and this one came the closet to what I had before. Price couldn't be better either. Few local stores carried this type of CD changer, so Amazon is definitely the way to go.
